The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary separation into pure and applied fields.

Duration of employment: 4 years

Starting: 01.09.2014

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Occupation group in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc)
On top of this relevant chargeable work experience determines the assessment to a particular salary grade.

Areas of work:
The advertised post doc position is associated with the chair for Numerics of Partial Differential Equations of Prof. Ilaria Perugia (email: ilaria.perugia@univie.ac.at). We are looking for a highly qualified researcher with special interests in Finite Element approximation of Partial Differential Equations, or related fields. Topics of current interest to the group include non standard finite element methods, such as Discontinuous Galerkin methods, finite elements with operator-based (Trefftz) approximating spaces, and mimetic/virtual element methods, for problems arising in acoustics, electromagnetics, elasticity and reaction-diffusion. The job holder's responsibilities include independent research and holding classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement and the usual administrative duties.

Profile:
A Doctoral degree / PhD or similar qualification is required for all candidates as well as experience in teaching and research. Past research should be documented by publications in recognized scientific journals.

Additional qualifications:
- high teaching skills,
- dedication to scientific excellence and goal orientation,
- international experience preferable.
