Mar 25 2012 - 12:00
Venue:

Dedeman-Princess Hotel, Sofia, Bulgaria

Short description of the event:

The EUROMATH conference is a mathematics conference for students of age 12-18 years old. It starter in 2009 in Cyprus with 45 international students and 45 local students. In 2010 the conference was organized in BadGoisern Austria with 150 students participation and in 2011 in Athens with 250 student participation with some 200 students involved in 92 presentations.

This activity is found attractive to students and we believe that this event will continue to grow. The conference gives the opportunity to students of age 12-18 to be creative in both the content of their presentation but also in the style of their presentation. Communicating through mathematics with fellow students of similar age from all over the world helps young people to become mathematics and science communicators, develop social skills, develop presentations skills, develop confidence and make new friends.

At each conference an abstract booklet is published and students have the opportunity to send full papers for electronic publication after the conference.

Starting with 2011 a new activity was introduced, the Mathematics Poster Design Competition. With this, the students have the opportunity to express their interest in mathematics through a different talent, the art talent, whether this is expressed by hand or using new technologies.

The aim is to organize the conference in different location every year. The EUROMATH 2012 will be organized in Sofia, Bulgaria from 21-25 March 2012.

The conference is organized by the Cyprus Mathematical Society and the THALES Foundation of Cyprus in cooperation with the European Mathematical Society and the VUZF University in Sofia.
