Job Description: 

The Faculty of Mathematics of the Technische Universität München (TUM) and Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) jointly invite applications for the position of

Director of the Institute of “Mathematical Models of Biological Systems” (working title) / Chair “Mathematical Models of Biological Systems”

starting in January 2013. The future holder of this position will be appointed to the TUM as a university professor (Pay grade W3) and will be granted leave of absence in order to lead the Helmholtz Institute. Furthermore the successful candidate will hold the associated chair of the TUM.

The Institute / Chair will serve as a bridge between the biomedical, experimental institutes of Helmholtz Zentrum München and the Faculty of Mathematics of the Technische Universität München.
The future scientific orientation of the institute will cover the following main areas of research:

Application and development of mathematical methods

• in systems biology of molecular networks
• in biological and medical imaging
• in molecular systems biology

Responsibilities include representation of the subject at the Faculty of Mathematics of the Technische Universität München with a teaching load of two hours per week.
Therefore pedagogical suitability and commitment to academic teaching are expected. Appropriate participation in administrative tasks of the Faculty and the TUM is required.

Prerequisites for employment are a university or a recognized technical university degree, pedagogical suitability, PhD and Habilitation or evidence of comparable scientific achievements, which can also be acquired within the scope of a junior professorship or outside the university sector. Applicants must not be older than 52 years at the time of appointment. Under certain circumstances exceptions are possible.
