Short description of the event: 

One theme of the May workshop will be the role of Higgs bundles, with special emphasis on
(a) Higgs bundles over non-orientable surfaces,
(b) the Hitchin fibration, and
(c) Higgs bundles on higher dimensional varieties.

The workshop will be preceded (May 9-11) by the following Master Classes:
(a) Harmonic maps and topology of varieties (Domingo Toledo)
(b) Fundamental groups of Klein surfaces and their representation varieties (Florent Schaffhauser)
(c) Higgs bundles and non-abelian Hodge Theory (Tony Pantev)
