The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter is continuing with a strategy of sustained investment in both academic staff and infrastructure to provide a catalyst for significant growth in both research activity and student experience. In recognition of their pivotal importance to both research and the student experience, the College is looking to appoint exceptional researchers and inspirational teachers to join its dynamic faculty.

As part of the College's strategy, we are expanding Mathematics on the Cornwall campus. This expansion will build up on existing links between mathematics and ecology, renewable energy and the Environment and Sustainability Institute and will support the development of a new and innovative BSc programme Mathematics and the Environment to be launched in 2013.

We seek dynamic individuals who can produce work of high scientific impact and/or mathematical rigour. Applicants whose work supports collaborations between mathematics and evolutionary biology and ecology; bioinformatics; environmental and social science; renewable energy; and/or energy policy and sustainability are welcomed. An appointment will be made at a level according to qualification and experience.

Applicants at Senior Lecturer level must be qualified to PhD level in Mathematical Sciences and be able to demonstrate a strong potential for research leadership with a track record in refereed publications and proven success in significant grant capture. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels on a range of Mathematics programmes.

At Lecturer level, applicants will hold a PhD in Mathematical Sciences and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in an active field of research related or complementary to existing strengths at the Cornwall campus. He/she will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics; a strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding, teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members, an active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally, the attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development, the aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning and enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate programmes.

Appointments will be made within the Education and Research job family, at grade F at Lecturer level with a salary range of GBP 31,948 to GBP 39,257 per annum or at grade G at Senior Lecturer level with a salary range of GBP 39,257 to GBP 52,706 per annum.
