Ethics Committee
Established in 2010, the Committee was given the first task of writing a "Code of Practice".
A draft version of this Code was finished in April, 2012, and discussed at the EMS Council Meeting in Krakow in July.
We expect that the Code will be approved by the Executive Committee of the EMS soon. Once approved, it will be available at the EMS website.
The Code will provide a framework for dealing with alleged unethical behavior in the publication and dissemination of mathematical research, and will give guidelines for good practice in these areas.
The Code covers the following:
1. Responsibilities of authors
2. Responsibilities of editors and publishers
3. Responsibilities of referees
4. Responsibilities of users of bibliometric data
There is also a section describing the procedures the Committee will follow in dealing with cases submitted to the Ethics Committee. Submission of cases to the Committee must await the approval of the Code and the publication of the guidelines for submission of cases. Please do not submit cases until the Code and the guidelines are available at the EMS website.
A website for the Committee will be established in due course. Further information on the Code of Practice, including a section with `Frequently Asked Questions' and a section with examples of good and bad practice in publication will be available at this website.
