University of Sussex invests in the future of Mathematics
Responding to increasing student numbers and repeated research funding successes the Department of Mathematics at the University of Sussex is expanding and therefore invites applications for four positions in Statistics and Probability. The intention is to strengthen existing competence in this area and form the core of a new research group.
In the 2008 research assessment exercise (RAE), 90 per cent of our research activity in Mathematics was rated as being internationally recognised or higher. The Times Higher Education ranking placed the University of Sussex 99th in the world and 12th in the UK, Mathematics at Sussex was ranked 11th and 17th in the UK in two recent league tables (Guardian 2012, Complete University guide 2012). It also repeatedly scores well in the UK National Student Survey.
The Department, which is currently organized into the three areas: Analysis and PDEs, including Financial Mathematics; Mathematics Applied to Biology; Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, is aiming to expand into the fields of Statistics and Probability. Applicants are invited from any area of Statistics and Probability, including Stochastic Analysis, Stochastic (Partial) Differential Equations, Stochastic Optimisation or Computational Aspects thereof. Applicants with experience of teaching, and research interest in Financial Mathematics are particularly welcome. Applicants from other areas will also be considered, if they have the clear potential to enhance our current Department's research strengths. Candidates should have outstanding academic credentials, a proven track record of world-leading research and will be expected to show leadership in the generation of research.
Closing date for applications: 15 February 2013
