The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The main research areas in the department are
mathematical analysis, stochastics, inverse problems, and statistics with their applications.
University lecturers/researchers (tenure track) (1-3 positions), starting August 1, 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.
University lecturers and researchers are expected to have doctor’s degree, excellent records in conducting scientific research as well as in educating and supervising undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. The candidate's records will be evaluated based on their scientific work,
records in directing research programs, teaching experience, pedagogical education, produced teaching material, and/or other records from teaching posts. Teaching skills must be demonstrated by a sample lecture or through equivalent documents.
The university lecturer positions are first filled for fixed-term period with the expectation that by the end of the term the candidate will have demonstrated eligibility for a tenured contract. In such cases the fixed-term contract can be extended to be open-ended up to professor level upon further external evaluation. An especially highly qualified applicant can be offered an open-ended researcher or temporary professor contract directly, with corresponding responsibilities.
