Open PhD Position in Applied Mathematics or Computational Engineering

in the area of

Adaptive Higher Order DG Methods for Porous-Media Multi-Phase Flow

Job Description: We are going to develop, analyze, and implement a discontinuous Galerkin fi nite element solver for the eficient simulation of multi-phase flows in strongly heterogeneous porous media. We aim at a fully implicit, locally conservative, higher order discretization on adaptively generated meshes. The implementation is based on DUNE and DUMUX. The post participates in the research programme of the SimTech Cluster of Excellence. It is located at the Chair for High Performance Computing at the Institute for Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation. The project is a collaboration with the Institute for Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems.

Job Requirement: We are looking for a PhD student with an excellent master or diploma degree in Applied Mathematics or Computational Engineering. The position requires a sound mathematical understanding of adaptive methods as well as sophisticated programming skills with C++. The PhD student is expected to participate actively in the SimTech Teaching Programmes and Industry Transfer Concepts.

Pay Scale: The position with designated salary bracket TV-L 13 has a limited tenure of three years with a possible extension.
