Postdoc position: Mathematical Statistical Mechanics - Collective Phenomena in Many Body Systems

Department of Mathematics, University of Roma Tre
Job Description:

A postdoctoral position, funded by an ERC Starting Grant, is offered within the project Collective Phenomena in Classical and Quantum Many Body Systems:

Interested candidates should have a strong background in the mathematics of quantum and classical statistical mechanics, and in particular on some of the methods that the PI and his team intend to apply to the problems addressed in this project (i.e., renormalization group, cluster expansion, functional inequalities, reflection positivity). Expertize on further complementary methods, which could be useful to develop novel inter-methodological approachs (i.e., probabilistic methods in quantum many body theory such as brownian motion and Feynman-Kac formula, Schramm-Lowner evolution, conformal field theory, large fields estimates) will be appreciated. The successful applicant will be expected to work on problems related to interacting quantum gases, pattern formation in classical and quantum systems, critical behavior of perturbed Ising models.

The appointment is for two years and it can start as early as March 1st, 2010. The position will be based at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Roma Tre. It comes with a competitive salary and no teaching duties.
