KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 14,000 first and second level students and more than 1,700 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,600 employees.
The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in engineering Physics, Vehicle engineering, SIMTEK (simulation technology and virtual design, and “Open Entrance”, as well as a number of International Masters Programs as well as PhD Programs.
At the division of Mathematics, there are research groups in, e.g., Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorics, Complex Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Harmonic Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, and Spectral Theory. There is also the possibility to apply for specific topics within the Ph.D. program, which are listed below. Please contact the professor in each topic according to the list:
i) Specialization in Spectral Theory of Partial Differential Operators, in particular spectral problems related to non-self-adjoint perturbations of Dirac and Schrödinger operators (contact person: Ari Laptev).
ii) Specialization in commutative algebra with connections to algebraic geometry, in particular minimal free resolutions and Hilbert functions of graded modules (contactperson: Mats Boij).
iii) Specialization in Combinatorics, in particular in methods using the geometry of zeros of multivariate polynomials. (contactperson: Petter Brändén).

A university study with an emphasis on mathematics (240 credit points) is a necessary qualification. A Master of Science in Mathematics is required. In addition to the traditional academic merits, a relevant degree project, international experience, and language skills are regarded as advantageous qualifications. Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well as possessing good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.

The salary follows the directions provided by KTH.
The employments are for a maximum of 5 years with up to 20% department service.
