Due to upcoming retirements six positions in the area of applied mathematics will become available
over the course of the next five years at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Cologne. The
institute wants to use this renewal to enhance and strengthen its competence in the fields of numerics,
stochastics, analysis and optimization. One of the professorships is intended to continue the close
cooperation with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in the area of numerical simulation and scientific
In a first step two full professorships in „Applied Mathematics“ (salary scale W3) are to be filled as soon as possible.
We are looking for candidates with an excellent scientific record in one of the following fields:
numerics, stochastics, analysis and optimization. Applicants are expected to show through their
previous activities that they display a strong willingness to deal intensively with applications.
Formal requirements for employment are university education, teaching capability, dissertation and
habilitation or equivalent scientific qualifications.
