Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London. The position is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and involves the study of rank gradient of groups and measurable group actions.

Applicants should have a PhD in measurable group theory, profinite groups or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience in a closely related discipline. A demonstrated track record of original research in group theory, ergodic theory, or an allied subject, and preferably in the general area of measurable group theory is required. The project involves finding new invariants of group actions on profinite spaces and applying these to rank gradient of residually finite groups, thus research experience relevant to this is essential.
