Apr 11 2010 - 23:59
Venue:

Loughborough University

Short description of the event:

The sequence of conferences "Mathematical Education of Engineers" held at Loughborough provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, practices and pedagogy in the mathematical education of engineers. Within this framework, university mathematics teachers together with engineering colleagues and participants from industry are able to discuss enhancement and reflection on the engineering mathematics provision in the context of ever-increasing demands of competence, effectiveness, quality and relevance. This conference aims to reflect the progress and experiences of initiatives within the teaching of mathematics to engineers in recent years, to debate areas of known concern and to learn together from current best practice.

This Conference is the Seventh MEE Conference and is compressed to provide an interactive one-day format. The programme will include invited speakers to highlight two main contemporary themes:

i) How might we best teach Maths to Engineers?
We encourage participants to submit papers covering case studies; pedagogic outcomes from practitioners, enhancements from the use of technology; experiences and reflective studies on enhancing interaction and different learning methods.

ii) What Maths should we teach Engineers?
Contributions are welcomed providing insight to learning outcomes; curriculum development to meet the changing external requirements in engineering / mathematics; improving understanding of engineering mathematics through context; meeting the skills expectations of graduate engineers.

Additional areas of broad interest to the mathematical education of engineers are welcomed. An informal Conference Dinner will be arranged in the evening.

The organisers invite contributed papers (or posters) or workshop sessions.

The proceedings of this conference will be published by the IMA.
Selected and possibly extended papers will be considered for a special issue of the
IMA Journal – Teaching Mathematics and its Applications
