The Department of Mathematics of K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time tenured academic position in geometry. We are looking for an excellent researcher (m/f) specialized in one of the many aspects of geometry, with a preference for differential geometry.
The international quality of the candidate’s research must be apparent from publications in international top journals. The successful candidate will support and further expand national and international research collaboration of the Section of Geometry of the Department of Mathematics and will initiate new research projects and collaboration with other researchers within the Department of Mathematics and the Science, Engineering and Technology Group of K.U.Leuven, for instance in relativity, analysis on manifolds, geometric group theory, or any other aspect of geometry.
Accepted applicants must have very good teaching skills. A commitment to quality of education as a whole is naturally understood. The teaching duty consists of service courses of mathematics and courses in the bachelor and master of mathematics, in particular courses of geometry in the bachelor of mathematics in Leuven and in Kortrijk, differential geometry in the master of mathematics, and supervision of bachelor and master projects.
Interested candidates should hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in science (mathematics) or an equivalent degree.
Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to the quality of its educational program. International research experience is required.
At K.U.Leuven the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided language training in order to be able to also instruct in the Dutch language within three years time. Proficiency in the English language is expected of all applicants.
The full-time position can be offered in one of the academic levels (full professor, professor, associate professor, assistant professor), depending on the qualifications of the candidate. The level of assistant professor (docent) will be offered for a period of five years . A positive evaluation at the end of the five-year appointment will result in a tenured appointment as associate professor (hoofddocent).
