Earthquake and Japanese Mathematics

Excerpt of a letter from Takashi Tsuboi, President of the Mathematical Society of Japan:
The earthquake occurred on March 11th has caused considerable damage to
the Tohoku District, the northeastern Japan, and the Mathematical
Society of Japan has decided to cancel the MSJ Spring Meeting 2011
scheduled from March 20th to 23rd at Waseda University. The worst-hit
area of the quake and the tsunami is devastating and the nuclear power
plant is not yet under control but our colleagues near the area are
starting to work for getting back to their daily lives, including
research activities.
